The Library Foundation was established in 1997 to develop and manage an endowment fund created primarily through charitable contributions. The Foundations purpose is to provide additional funding for programs and services beyond what is available through the Librarys tax-supported base. Setting an initial goal of raising $200,000, the Endowment income will fund special Library programs and other services designed to respond to the interests and needs of the Mount Prospect Community. Get A Clue: Mount Prospect’s 2007 Puzzlethon” is a new event designed by the Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation and the Mount Prospect Historical Society. These two groups are teaming up to raise funds and also to offer a fun way for “puzzleholics” to get what they crave – an intellectual challenge.
“This will be a unique event for everyone – families, individuals and puzzleholics of all ages,” says Victoria Bitters, one of the organizers. “But only 100 tickets will be sold, so early registration will probably be necessary.”
“Individuals or teams of up to four people will work together decoding clues at the Mount Prospect Public Library that afternoon,” explains Gavin Kleespies, executive director of the Mount Prospect Historical Society and the other primary organizer.
“You will find the clues while attending several special performances and character re-enactments held in the Library’s large meeting room starting at 2:00 P.M. Each one will provide one of the ten clues necessary to solve the afternoon’s final puzzle,” he continues.
“Each individual or group will have already been issued a decoder which they will then use to input the clues and solve the final puzzle. They will have a half hour after the presentations end at 3:15 P.M. to come up with their answer,” Bitters adds.
Everyone who correctly solves the final puzzle will receive a small prize and will also be put into a drawing for the afternoon’s grand prize.
The cost for this puzzling afternoon will be $10 per person or $30 for a team of four friends or family members. All proceeds from “Get a clue: Mount Prospect’s 2007 Puzzlethon” will benefit the Mount Prospect Library Foundation and the Mount Prospect Historical Society. The Foundation supports special services and programs that are not available through public funding. The Historical Society promotes the discovery, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge about the history of Mount Prospect, Illinois.

Are you one of those people hanging on to an old cell phone? Don’t throw them away; donate them to the Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation. The Foundation has partnered with EcoPhones to raise funds by recycling old cell phones. It’s very simple. Bring your old cell phones (working or not) and your cell phone’s batteries (but not the chargers) to the Mount Prospect Public Library and drop them in the collection box near the Registration Desk. The Foundation has also made arrangements to recycle ink-jet cartridges and turn them into funds to support the Library’s efforts. Please, bring any used ink-jet cartridges (they must fit in the palm of your hand) to the collection box to be recycled. Your support for the Library Foundation allows the Library to continue to provide exciting programs and services not possible through public funding. You can make a difference.
