Government and Legal Information
Mount Prospect Public Library was designated a federal depository for government publications in 1990, the only library with this designation in the North Suburban Library System (which includes 47 public libraries). Selecting approximately 16% of the publications offered to the 1,350 participating libraries nationwide, MPPL provides this information in a variety of formats: print, CD-ROM and microfiche. A small print collection is on the second floor adjacent to the legal code sets; however, many of the print materials have been incorporated into the reference and circulating collections. Recently, many print sources have been migrating to electronic-only formats available through the web.
Highlights of the collection include
- Full set of congressional hearings on microfiche from 1980 to the present.
- Print sets of the following
- United States Code Annotated
- Statutes at Large 1976-present
- Code of Federal Regulations
- Federal Register (2 years)
- United States Reports 1975-present
- Smith-Hurd Illinois Compiled Statutes
- Laws of Illinois 1967-present,
- Illinois Appellate Court Reports 1937-1973
- Illinois Reports 1938-1973
- Illinois Decisions 1965-present

Martindale-Hubbell Lawyer Locator
Nolo Press Self Help Law Center more info »Nolo Press was started by two Legal Aid lawyers who were fed up with the fact that the average person couldn't find affordable legal information and advice. Convinced that with good, reliable information, Americans could handle routine legal problems without hiring an attorney, they began writing plain-English law books for non-lawyers.
